Regret not working out legs from the start

During my first six months of working out I managed to "skip out" on almost all of my leg workouts.  The next three months during round 3 of P90X I did almost all of my "Plyometrics" and "Legs and Back"  workouts and began to see a difference.  I don't know if it's just me but I skipped leg workouts because its just one of those muscles people don't tend to notice(in a guy at least).  I wanted to look good when I took my shirt off so I neglected this area.  The past month I have really enjoyed my leg workouts!  I use my new weighted vest in  Plyometrics and the Legs and Back workout.  After I finish my jump training routine on Tuesday's I add 3 sets of dead lifts to help out with my "chicken Legs" I have also added in some stair running with the vest on in the mornings.  Now that I can start to see muscle in my leg I am starting to love these leg workouts!  Now if I could only get a tan :)

One thing I will try to remember is that working out your leg muscles will release more testosterone for maximum muscle growth throughout the whole body!

Set Goals and Accomplish

I am super stoked about the response we are getting in my group "Staying Fit".  I can't even call it my group anymore, It's our group!  The motivation level right now in there is HIGH!  This is what we need to be successful.  I love hearing about people doing more than what is asked of whatever program it is they are doing. If you are not a member of this group and you would like to be, let me know and I will add you!

I know I've said this before but if you want to achieve maximum results you need to set goals.  What are your goals?  Plan something that helps you drive and push yourself to reach your goals.  Things I have planned for this year that DRIVE me are:

  1. We will be climbing the Middle Teton again this year-(anyone is welcome to come)
  2. A seven night cruise in the Fall ( I want to be the most fit and ripped guy on the boat)
  3. Having my wife start doing some P90X with me

Guiding my Father and Wife up the Middle Teton August 2010

Now in order achieve what I want for these activities I need to set smaller goals in the fitness area.  I will :
  1. Add 50 miles of running to my routine per month
  2. I will continue to use my weighted vest at 22lbs on all body weight exercises.
  3. I will add 1 hour of stair running with weighted vest per week
  4. I will add dead lifts after every Plyometrics workout
  5. I will not miss a workout
One thing that I realized I want to be able to do is get into the crane position and push it into a handstand. (I've never been able to do a handstand).  From there I want to do one pike press with my feet straight up.  Hold me accountable.

174lbs!

Round 4 Week 3
I thought I could never gain 20 pounds so fast, its crazy!  Thanks to all of my friends, (old and new) I have been able to stay motivated and keep motivating others to do the same.  I keep pushing myself further with each day.  Yesterday on Shoulders and Arms I finished and then did 10 minutes of some forearm workouts as well as and extra 3 sets of drag curls with my Olympic Bar.  For maximum results always remember to follow good nutrition and to do more than expected, more than you think you can!

Chest and Back!

“Never be afraid to do something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic"
This workout is my Nemesis!  I am on my 3rd week of round 4 and you would think it gets easier.  Not for me!  I'm still using my weighted vest with about 22lbs in it, therefore, difficult!  By the middle of the second round on Chest and Back I was dry heaving a little after each move.  Pushing myself to the limits is what makes me successful.
With summer just around the corner I am going to start getting shredded and leave the "bulking" stage.  I plan on doing this by adding in the extra cardio little by little until I am running a good 3 miles at least 4 times per week.  This is what I did last summer in preparation for the cruise we went on.  Its going to be a little disappointing to see some of the bulk disappear but I will be faster and stronger for my size.  I'm excited to see my six pack in full force again !

Weighted Vest!

Along with my Russian Bear 5000 the thing that helps most with adding major muscle and strength while doing P90X or any other work out is a weighted vest! This picture link to the left is one of the best deals I have seen.  I am currently using 22lbs and it is HARD!  Remember that pull-ups are the #1 upper body mass builder.  Last night I wanted a even more intense workout then P90X Plyometrics so I threw on my vest and went to town.  I ran 20 sets of stairs, then sprinted 10 sets of stairs. Then I would do 25 squats with vest and two 35 lbs dumbbells, and 30 lunges with vest and 35lbs dumbbells.  I repeated this 6 times for a total of 1 hour.  What a workout and with only a vest and 1 set of dumbbells.

This is the pre-workout Creatine that I am using on my next cycle.  I have read really good reviews.  Not only does it give you creatine but it gives you the extra pre-workout energy you need to really push your self to the limits.  This is where you will see growth!

Something else you will really need for working out at home is a pull up bar.  This one is the best pull up bar for the price in my personal opinion.

Russian Bear 5000

For those that have been asking what type of protein I have been using to make me gain 16 pounds of muscle in 90 days.   Here it is, Russian Bear 5000!  I LOVE the taste of this protein powder over every other brand I have tryed.  The serving amount recommended is not how I use it.   I use one scoop with 16 ounces of milk  twice a day, every day.  This last me for about 3 weeks.  Amazon usually ships pretty fast so I recommend this!  If you have any questions let me know and I will be more than glad to help. I use Body Fortress as my pre-workout  creatine.  This creatine last me for one complete month.  If you add these two together the monthly cost of supplements is extremely low!  Remember to use Creatine in cycles for optimal results!  Free free to ask me questions.

Time to cut?

November 7th 2010 -154lbs

March 7th 2011 -171lbs
Here is a 4 month change from November 7th 2010 till March 7th 2011 from the front view.  I am currently 16 lbs heavier.  With summer just around the corner, I am going to start turning up the cardio so I can bring my six pack back out.  That is the one thing about gaining mass or bulking up that is inevitable.  If you want to gain bulk muscle you have to eat alot of calories (healthy calories),Lift heavy weight with low reps, and cut back the cardio.  I'm going to try to gain 5 more pounds and arrive at 175lbs and then cut fat during the summer with added running.

Round four has begun!

I finally started round four!  I was sick for a week and a half so I have been putting off my start date.  I pushed play last night and did Chest and Back with 22lbs in my weighted vest.  WOW.  I have never sweat so bad during a work out before.  INTENSE.  For those wanting to gain muscle mass and burn off fat I highly recommend getting a weighted vest.  I was SO tempted to take it off for the last 5 moves but resisted.   I was literally crawling on the floor to my notepad to jot down my reps and weights.
Summer is just around the corner so it is time for us to step it up!  Set new goals.  Plan a vacation or trip to the beach and work your butts off to look good.  It's always best to have something that drives you to work hard.  We will plan a 7 night cruise again for this fall so I have a whole 7 months to BRING IT.   Any questions feel free to ask!
